New data shows tiger populations are growing in parts of its range—including Bhutan! Sadly, this is not the case in all countries; despite significant investments over the past years. Instead we see that, at the core of the few success stories in global tiger conservation are community support, conservation leadership, and sound policies.

Today, Central Bhutan is emerging as the tiger stronghold of Bhutan. But this also means there are increasing incidents of livestock predation in such areas where human settlements are embedded in tiger landscapes. On this #GlobalTigerDay, the Bhutan Foundation is honored to partner with the government, the Bhutan Tiger Center, and tiger-affected communities to relieve the pressures of tiger conservation on local livelihoods. Our support will go towards the Tiger Conservation Committees for Norbuling Gewog in Pema Gatshel, Jigme Choling in Sarpang, and Sephu in Wangdue Phodrang districts.

With a long history of supporting tiger biology in Bhutan (especially early radio-telemetry studies) and field conservation, the Bhutan Foundation remains invested in supporting key communities, in partnership with other stakeholders, in the areas of sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.
